The majority of the grapes for this Vintage Port come from the Pinhão river valley where the Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz are able to support the Summer heat. Then we add grapes from other valleys to make a classic Vintage Port blend.
Fermentation was done in a mix of closed vat to guarantee the freshness and the aromatic component and lagar for the complexity and structure.

Most of the grapes that we use in this blend come from Quinta dos Muros and Quinta da Manuela, both in the East slopes of the Pinhão river valley.
The wine has an exuberant aroma marked by black fruits, rock rose black pepper and fig. It's powerful with great acidity and elegance. To age for many years, but also very good to enjoy young.

2016 was a challenging year due to the weather conditions throughout the growing season. We consider the challenge won, and this wine is one of the proofs of it.
Portal 2016 is a blend of grapes that come mostly from the Pinhão river valley. We then added grapes from other valleys along the Douro.
The fermentation was done in a mix of lagar and closed tank. In the lagar we get more complexity and structure and the tank guarantees for the freshness and aromatic components.

For the first time we started picking grapes for Vintage Port in August! The majority of the fruit for the 2011 came from Quinta dos Muros where the Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz coped very well with the Summer heat. These grapes were macerated in closed vats and the grapes from the older vineyards.
It shows mature fresh fruit and very good minerality that balances very well with its power and concentration.

Very dark purple, it has aromas of plum and black fig in a clean and pure profile. Very balanced, silky but with a firm tannin and excellent acidity.Very fresh and elegant.
Portal Vintage Port 2003, awarded Champion Fortified Wine of the Year at the International Wine Challenge, is indeed a remarkable and unique wine produced in a excepcional year. The very rainy Winter made possible to the vines to cope with the extreme heat we had in the Summer.
Blackish intense purple with aromas of blueberry, anise, mint and some black pepper. It's a big and balanced full-bodied wine with sweet black plum and blueberries with lots of good acidity.
A wine that is easy to like that has a very, very long finish.
The 2000 Vintage was our first Port to win a Gold Medal at the prestigious International Wine Challenge, and opened way to our 2003 fantastic double declaration.
This is a wine built to last for decades! Opaque purple hue, in the nose we have notes of plum and purple fruit. Full-bodied, but smooth and elegant, with a delicious cassis, cedar and raspberry profile.
This was one of he few 1999 declarations, and we made the right decision as this wine was an eye opener for many people regarding Quinta do Portal.
It's round, smooth, well balanced with aromas of black cherry, raspberry, cassis and a touch of mocca all very well integrated.
Jeremy Bull's "nose" and expert advice were also involved in this Vintage.
The 1997 Vintage Port is the result of a exceptional agricultural year. After a harsh winter, with snow falling in our vineyards in January, the Spring brought hot and sunny days that led to a early bud-burst. In April and May we had again cold and humid weather allowing for a balanced development of the vines. Summer was hot and dry leading to an excellent maturation of the grapes, that were picked on the 16th September.
The wine starts closed on the nose, but as it opens reveals notes of tobacco, dry plums and spices. Well structured with a complex volume, but quite silky. It finishes very long and very pleasant.

As it's a wine that has aged in bottle for many years it should be decanted in order to remove the sediment and to allow it to breathe.
Its evolution has been remarkable. Aroma of dry plum and spices, earthy and fresh. Silky, smooth and very appealing. A special wine with a great character.
